Education Minister: Knowing Chinese is an important competitive advantage for Cambodian youth

Phnom Penh: Mr. Hang Chuon Naron, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education, Youth and Sports, said that knowing Chinese is an important competitive advantage for Cambodian youth in seizing job and business opportunities in the 21st century.

Speech by Mr. Hang Chuon Naron on the occasion of co-chairing the 2026 International Chinese Language Day ceremony on April 20, 2026, held at the Confucius Institute of the Royal Academy of Cambodia.

On this occasion, the Deputy Prime Minister congratulated the International Chinese Language Day 2026 and highlighted the importance of the Chinese language as a strategic bridge in strengthening the steel friendship and cooperation between Cambodia and China, and highlighted the progress of Chinese language education, which has grown rapidly in the Cambodian education system.

In this regard, the Deputy Prime Minister said, “Knowing Chinese is a key competitive advantage for Cambodian youth in seizing job and business opportunities in the 21st century.” This language knowledge not only helps in personal development, but also is an important driving force in boosting the national economy to achieve Cambodia’s 2050 vision of becoming a high-income country and continue to maintain stronger Cambodia-China friendship.”

The Deputy Prime Minister expressed his deep gratitude to the Chinese government for its continued support for Cambodia’s development in the past and thanked all educational partners, educational staff and relevant institutions for their contributions to promoting education, especially Chinese language education in Cambodia, and encouraged all students to seize this opportunity to study, learn and exchange experiences for the development of the country in the future.

Please note that the International Chinese Language Day is a program supported by the Chinese Embassy in Cambodia and the China-Foreign Language Exchange Cooperation Center of the Chinese Ministry of Education. It is an important platform organized annually with the aim of encouraging young people to study Chinese, promoting Chinese language education in Cambodia, and expanding people-to-people exchanges between the Kingdom of Cambodia and the People’s Republic of China.
