Phnom Penh: On Wednesday, April 29, 2026, Mr. Peng Purna, Minister of Public Works and Transport, presided over the opening ceremony of a training course on “Road Traffic Safety Risk Audit Techniques using the iRAP Star Ratings Procedure”, with the participation of Ms. YASMIN SIDDIQI, Country Director of the Asian Development Bank in Cambodia, His Excellency, Ministerial leaders, visiting professors, and many civil servants.

This training course was conducted to enable technical officers of the Ministry of Public Works and Transport to further understand the International Road Assessment Program (iRAP) Star Rating, which is a scientific and globally recognized method and to enable expert organizations to audit road infrastructure by providing “Star Ratings” from 1 to 5 stars according to the status and conditions of each road.

It should be noted that on November 21, 2017, all United Nations Member States adopted 12 Global Road Safety Performance Targets, including Target 3, “By 2030, all newly constructed roads will receive a 3-star rating or higher” and Target 4, “By 2030, more than 75% of road trips will be on roads built with a 3-star rating or higher.”

This principle further emphasizes the importance of current training, which helps Cambodia contribute to achieving the United Nations’ common goal on road safety.
