Battambang: On April 30, 2026, the Battambang provincial water supply system was officially inaugurated, another milestone in expanding water supply services to meet the growing demand in Battambang city and surrounding areas.

The inauguration ceremony was held under the chairmanship of Mr. Hem Vandy, Minister of Industry, Science, Technology and Innovation, and the representative of His Excellency Samdech Maha Bovorathei Hun Manet, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia.

The new water supply system costs a total of approximately 31.77 million US dollars, a project co-financed by the Asian Development Bank, the French Development Agency and the Royal Government of Cambodia’s counter-funding.

The project is located in Kampong Seimei village, Battambang city, and construction began in July 2022 and will be completed in December 2025. It includes a raw water pumping station, a 50,000 cubic meter per day water treatment plant, and a 94-kilometer distribution network.

With the launch of this system, the Battambang Water Supply Authority has more than doubled its clean water production capacity and expanded the new network connection to 16,798 additional households, covering approximately 76% of its service area.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Minister Hem Vandy said, “This new clean water supply system increases the Battambang Water Supply Authority’s clean water production capacity from 33,520 m3/day to 83,520 m3/day, an increase of 148%.

Yasmin Siddiqi, Country Director for Cambodia of the Asian Development Bank, highlighted the broad benefits of the project, stating, “A reliable supply of clean water improves public health, saves time for families, and supports local economic growth. As urbanization accelerates, access to safe and affordable water is critical to productivity and quality of life.”
