140th International Workers’ Day: Unions pleased with the award of “One Enterprise, One Peaceful Community”

Phnom Penh: Trade unions in Cambodia have congratulated the Royal Government for awarding the “One Enterprise is One Peaceful Community” award, which is a key means of maintaining employment growth and high productivity for workers and factories, an important message in the spirit of International Workers’ Day on May 1.

Mr. Sam Soeun, President of the National Labor Union of Cambodia (NLC), said, “I am very pleased to be awarded the Peaceful Community Enterprise Award because this program has helped to improve rights and working conditions, in line with the efforts of the Royal Government, which is paying great attention to the labor sector.”

He added that the competition and awarding of this award has helped the enterprise become a truly peaceful community that brings comfort, safety and helps prevent risks in the workplace. At the same time, the participation of factories, enterprises and support from the Royal Government can help improve labor standards and improve compliance with national and international labor laws and standards.

Mr. Hang Ravy, President of the Cambodian Workers’ Rights Union (CWPUC), said, “As a representative of unions and workers in Cambodia, I feel very excited and happy about the awarding of an enterprise as a peaceful community under the leadership of His Majesty the King, Prime Minister Hun Sen, through the Ministry of Labor and Vocational Training under the leadership of His Excellency Prime Minister Heng Sour.”

After the award ceremony, Mr. Hang Ravy noted that the number of enterprises that applied for the One Enterprise is a Healthy Community Award for 2026 has increased, with 55 factories and enterprises that applied for and received the award, but if we look at 2025, only about 34 factories and enterprises received the award.

According to the Ministry of Labor and Vocational Training, in the second year of the program, 55 enterprises were evaluated and selected by the evaluation committee to receive the 2026 “One Enterprise is a Healthy Community” award.

The 55 enterprises were evaluated and selected by the evaluation committee to receive the 2026 award, including 29 garment and garment enterprises, 4 footwear manufacturing enterprises, 2 travel and bag manufacturing enterprises, 4 other manufacturing enterprises, 2 wood, paper, related products and printing enterprises, 1 electrical products manufacturing enterprise, 1 beverage and tobacco products manufacturing enterprise, 1 information technology and communication enterprise, 1 wholesale and retail enterprise, 2 service enterprises, 2 accommodation and food service enterprises, and 6 finance and insurance enterprises.

The awards are divided into three categories, such as the Gold Award, given to 27 enterprises, which will receive exemption from simple labor registration for 3 years in the event of no complaints. Silver awards are given to 18 enterprises, which will be exempted from simple labor inspections for 2 years if there are no complaints.

Bronze awards are given to 10 enterprises, which will be exempted from simple labor inspections for 1 year if there are no complaints.

Please note that “One Enterprise is One Peaceful Community” was initiated from the joint implementation of recommendations by Samdech Techo Hun Sen, former Prime Minister and current President of the Cambodian Senate, and Samdech Maha Prasad Hun Manet, Prime Minister, during a meeting with workers and employees in 2023.
