Phnom Penh: More than 1,000 workers, unions, farmers, and civil society organizations expressed their satisfaction in participating in the social dialogue forum to celebrate International Labor Day on May 1, 2026 with the government because this forum can help workers and farmers express their requests and demands to the government more quickly than through petition marches or media correspondence.

Mr. Kong Athit, President of the Cambodian Confederation of Labor, said that the social dialogue forum provided an opportunity for employers, unions, and civil society organizations to meet face-to-face to exchange views and put forward policy recommendations to find solutions to the challenges that workers and farmers are facing related to labor rights, freedom of association, fair wages, occupational safety and health, and expanding social protection. In addition, workers and farmers can also raise their requests and questions directly.

He stated: “This forum is a common space for the government, unions, employers, workers, farmers and all stakeholders to discuss and find common solutions related to labor rights, decent wages, job security, and expanding social protection. and measures to respond to the global crisis.

Inviting to preside over the opening ceremony of the forum, Mr. Heng Sour, Minister of Labor and Vocational Training, expressed his joy and gratitude to the workers, unions, farmers, civil society, and all relevant institutions for choosing a fast and effective method to meet and discuss today, rather than going to the meeting and submitting letters. Or respond through the media.

The Minister said: “What you are organizing today is to make your voice heard, to make your requests heard by the government, and to submit your petitions, submit your requests, submit your requests quickly. That way, you don’t have to go through a lot of roundabouts. We come here to meet. If you have any questions, why not? Ask each other directly. ”

The Minister emphasized that the Ministry of Labor will accept requests, suggestions, or complaints from workers to find solutions quickly and promptly, regardless of whether they work in the system or outside the system, as long as the problems are related to working conditions and benefits.

It was held under the theme “Social Protection Response Policy, Labor Rights, and the Global Crisis” with more than 1,000 participants.
