Phnom Penh: Prime Minister Hun Sen of Cambodia has said that the Ministry of National Defense plans to abolish some departments and consolidate offices in order to reform the army.
Speaking by Prime Minister Hun Sen on the occasion of presiding over the 19th anniversary of Cambodian Veterans and Retirees Day on May 12, 2026 on the morning of Friday, May 15, 2026.
The Prime Minister continued that the reform of the Royal Government, especially the Ministry of National Defense, is to reduce the head and expand the body. In this sense, any unit or section that does not need to be reduced in strength or abolished altogether. Overall, it is necessary to reform and modernize the army to increase the national defense capacity in the long term.
Samdech Techo Hun Manet said, “We are considering now. We plan to abolish some departments, cut some offices, cut some parts, consolidate some offices that have the same role, put them under one type of army, combat force with the same function. We will eliminate them.”
