Phnom Penh: Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen said that although there is only a 1 percent chance of resolving the border dispute with Thailand peacefully, he will continue to resolve it through international legal mechanisms.
The Prime Minister’s statement came after a handful of extremists who have set themselves up as analysts on social media have analyzed the Cambodia-Thailand border dispute as only one percent away from winning from Thailand.
However, regarding such remarks by analysts whom the Prime Minister called “explosive analysts,” from a forum celebrating the 19th anniversary of Cambodian Veterans and Retirees Day on the morning of May 15, 2026, the Prime Minister reiterated that even though there is only a 1 percent chance of resolving the border dispute with Thailand peacefully, We must also use peaceful mechanisms to resolve the issue, rather than resorting to war that causes deaths, injuries, and the destruction of infrastructure.
The Prime Minister said, “Let me reiterate that if there is even a 1 percent chance of a peaceful resolution that we can still open the door to negotiations to end the issue of protecting territorial integrity peacefully, we must use it to the fullest. 1 percent of the opportunity to open negotiations and not close them peacefully is not 1 percent of defeating them through negotiations.”
The Prime Minister said that analysts who claim to be experts on border analysis are less knowledgeable than ordinary citizens, who have a clearer understanding of the border issue than all the other experts.
