Phnom Penh: Prime Minister Hun Sen said that all types of Cambodian armed forces need knowledgeable and capable people because weapons, security technology, and national defense technology need knowledgeable people.
The Prime Minister’s statement comes after there have been many comments that those who join the military or police do not need to be knowledgeable or learn much.
However, on the occasion of the 19th anniversary of Cambodian Veterans and Retirees Day on May 15, 2026, the Prime Minister said that Cambodian soldiers must know certain skills to improve their own capabilities to be strong and excellent.
The Prime Minister said, “Some of you are mistaken that joining the military means not learning. No, soldiers need it, police need it, the armed forces need it, and the armed forces must be modern because weapons and security technology National defense technology requires knowledgeable and highly trained people, and this is the Royal Government’s investment in increasing the capabilities of the military, the National Police, and the Royal Military Police. We must move forward to invest in our nation.”
The Prime Minister said that what he mentioned was aimed at strengthening the capabilities of all types of national police forces to be even stronger to be the backbone of national defense, both now and in the future.
