Traffic accidents in Kampong Chhnang and Svay Rieng provinces leave 93 workers injured, 14 dead

Phnom Penh: Two traffic accidents that occurred simultaneously on the morning of May 23, 2026 in Kampong Chhnang and Svay Rieng provinces, as of 10 am this morning, resulted in a total of 93 workers (74 women), including 14 deaths (10 women), 15 serious injuries (12 women), and 64 minor injuries (52 women).

The press release from the Ministry of Labor and Vocational Training stated that the first case occurred in Sala Village No. 5, O Russey Commune, Kampong Tralach District, Kampong Chhnang Province, between a large cargo truck and a worker transport vehicle, resulting in 53 victims (50 women), including 9 deaths (8 women), 9 serious injuries (8 women), and 35 minor injuries (34 women). The second case occurred in Thmey Village, Sangkat Sangkor, Svay Rieng City, Svay Rieng Province, between a worker transport vehicle and a worker transport vehicle, resulting in 40 victims (24 women), including 5 deaths (2 women), 6 serious injuries (4 women), and 29 minor injuries (18 women).

Immediately after receiving the information, the National Social Security Bureau, the Department of Labor and Vocational Training, and local authorities rushed to the scene and worked hard to rescue and send the injured to the hospital near the scene, the provincial referral hospital, and are currently sending them to the
Kalmeteri Hospital.

Today’s traffic accident is the saddest day, with the most deaths of workers and employees. The ministry will work with relevant institutions to further improve the safety of workers and employees.
The Ministry of Labor and Vocational Training has assigned ministry leaders to organize the funeral, with all funeral expenses borne by the Ministry of Labor and Vocational Training and the National Social Security Fund, and benefits in accordance with the Labor Law and the Social Security System.

The Ministry would like to express its deepest condolences and sympathy to the families and relatives of the deceased and wish a speedy recovery to all the injured.
The Ministry of Labor and Vocational Training will continue to help resolve the difficulties of workers and their families in accordance with the principles of the National Social Security System.
