Phnom Penh: Ms. Stefanie Lang, Executive Director and Head of Delegation of the Legacy Landscapes Fund (LLF), highly appreciated the many achievements in the management of Cambodia’s protected areas, especially the people in local communities who actively participate in ensuring sustainable forest protection.

This statement was made when she and her delegation, together with Conservation International Cambodia (CI Cambodia), received permission to meet and discuss with Dr. Eang Sophallet, Minister of Environment, on May 25, 2026, at the Ministry of Environment.

Ms. Stefanie Lang further stated that the Landscape Heritage Foundation Continue to support and strengthen cooperation with the Ministry of Environment in the protection and conservation of natural resources and sustainable development in Cambodia.
On the occasion, Dr. Eang Sophallet, Minister of Environment, said that the Ministry of Environment has prepared a green development project, which is the main strategy to strengthen the conservation of the environment, culture, religion and natural resources, and help enhance the beauty of nature protection areas, as well as improve the livelihoods of local people.

The Minister highlighted the commitment of the Royal Government of Cambodia through sound and sharp policies and strategies and under the environmental sector cycle strategy, focusing on tree planting to expand forest cover and the goal of Cambodia being a carbon neutral country by 2050.
In managing natural resources, Cambodia has been implementing the National Contribution to Climate Change Response (NDC3.0) and promoting the implementation of carbon credit projects in accordance with Article 6 of the Paris Agreement to strengthen the conservation and expansion of green cover to extract carbon credits based on nature protection and promoting reforestation using modern techniques, such as the project using drones to sow seeds or bamboo cultivation, etc.

Dr. Eang Sophallet further spoke about improving the livelihoods of protected areas communities, helping communities manage and directly benefit from forest conservation in their areas and supporting conservation work in important scenic areas, especially in the Cardamom Range National Park.
Please note that the LLF Foundation has provided financial support of approximately 1 million USD per year. For a minimum of 15 years, the Central Cardamom Range Scenic Area Program of the Cardamom Range National Park will improve the management of protected areas, conserve biodiversity, restore ecosystems, and create sustainable livelihood options for local communities.
