Minister of Education: ADB is an important strategic partner to transform Cambodia’s human resources

Phnom Penh: Deputy Prime Minister Hang Chuon Naron, Minister of Education, Youth and Sports, said that the Asian Development Bank (ADB) is an important strategic partner to transform Cambodia’s human resources into a “skilled and knowledge-based workforce.”

Deputy Prime Minister Hang Chuon Naron made the statement during a courtesy call and working discussion with the ADB Board Group delegation led by Ms. Lisa Wright, Alternate Executive Director, with the participation of leaders of the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports, Ms. Yasmin Siddiqi, Country Director of the ADB in Cambodia, and colleagues on May 25, 2026.

During the meeting, the two sides Discussed key agenda items, focusing on reviewing the partnership strategy and promoting projects in line with the first phase of the Royal Government of Cambodia’s Pentagon Strategy.

In response, the Deputy Prime Minister highlighted the key achievements of education sector reforms over the past decade, highlighting the progress of early childhood education, promoting child nutrition in partnership with development partners, providing scholarships to students from poor families and living in remote areas, continuing to strengthen and expand.

The Deputy Prime Minister deeply appreciated and thanked the Asian Development Bank (ADB) for its continued support for the project to improve the quality of education in Cambodia. Which has created many positive effects in reducing the education gap between urban and rural areas, reducing the dropout rate at the secondary level, helping female students have more opportunities to acquire technological skills, and young people graduate with clear skills that meet the needs of foreign investors in Cambodia.

The Deputy Prime Minister said, “In this sense, ADB is an important strategic partner to transform Cambodia’s human resources into a workforce that relies on skills and knowledge, which is an indispensable foundation for Cambodia to achieve its vision of becoming an upper-middle-income country by 2030 and a high-income country by 2050.”
