The President considers rubber a strategic crop

Phnom Penh: Prime Minister Hun Sen said the Royal Government continues to consider rubber as a strategic crop for improving the production chain and as a target for the development of Cambodia’s agricultural sector.

On the occasion of the inauguration of a rubber processing plant in Tbong Khmum district, Tbong Khmum province on the morning of May 27, 2026, the Prime Minister said that defining rubber as a strategic plan is aimed at reaching the goal of potential levels in both quantity and quality, especially improving the rubber production value chain with confidence and competitiveness.

The Prime Minister said, “The Royal Government has continued to consider rubber crops as a strategic crop by issuing a strategic plan for the development of the natural rubber industry in Cambodia in 2012-2020 and a strategic plan for the development of natural rubber towards 2030 to enhance the potential of rubber crops.”

At the same time, the Prime Minister The Ministry of Agriculture was recommended to closely cooperate with relevant ministries, institutions and sub-national administrations to promote the implementation of the National Policy on Agricultural Development 2022-2030, the Strategic Plan for Industrial Agriculture Development 2019-2030, the Strategic Plan for National Rubber Development towards 2030, and to accelerate the preparation of the law on agricultural production under contract to increase trust between farmers and collecting companies. In addition, the President expressed satisfaction with rubber production in 2025, which sold approximately $833 million, an increase of 24% compared to 2024.
