Preah Vihear Province: The investigating judge of the Preah Vihear Provincial Court has issued a temporary detention order against a man, identified as a citizen, on charges of serious forestry crimes after being arrested and detained by environmental officers.
According to detention order No. 612/26 dated May 30, 2026, issued by Mr. Tith Huot Chheng, investigating judge of the Preah Vihear Provincial Court The accused is named Pang Makara, male, 43 years old (born January 17, 1983), Cambodian, and is a laborer.
This person was born in Khleang Sek village, Loek Dek commune, Koh Thom district, Kandal province, and currently resides in Sam Sil village, Srayong commune, Kulen district, Preah Vihear province. The case of violation of the law on protected areas. The court’s order highlighted that: Pang Makara was placed under investigation for the charge of: transporting, collecting, operating or harvesting natural resource by-products without a permit, which occurred at the Niyamka point (484596-1535439) in Samsil village, Srayang commune, Kulen district, Preah Vihear province, on October 31, 2025.
This criminal offense is punishable under the provisions of Article 62, point 5 of the Law on Protected Areas.
The court decided to order the competent public force agents to bring the accused to the Preah Vihear provincial prison and ordered the prison director to receive and detain the person until a new order is issued by the court.
In particular, according to the handover and reception of detainees on the same day, it was stated that at 3:50 pm on Saturday, May 30, 2026, a team from the Preah Vihear Provincial Environment Department led by Mr. Men Sokun (Environmental Officer) handed over Phang Makara to representatives of the Preah Vihear Provincial Prison, including Mr. Mao Rong, Deputy Director of the Prison, to follow legal procedures.
The handover and reception was completed at 4:10 pm in a very smooth and thorough atmosphere.
The strict legal action taken against the suspects who committed this crime has demonstrated the firm determination of the competent authorities and the Cambodian judicial system to implement the law on the protection of natural resources without exception, regardless of the background or role of the perpetrator.
