Phnom Penh: “Human of This Planet”, a global storytelling platform founded by Cheryl Ng, in collaboration with “Paradyms”, a creative studio founded by Keoni Carrion, has officially announced the screening of its documentary series, “Beyond the Sound”. The official screening event will take place on June 19, 2026 at 6:00 PM at the Institut Français de Cambodia (IFC) in Phnom Penh, with the Institut Français de Cambodia (IFC) as a co-host and venue partner. This special evening will bring together communities involved in the film, independent filmmakers, the public, and journalists.

This documentary series showcases Cambodians defending their land, culture, and community, told through in-depth filmmaking and direct interviews with the characters. To reflect the activities of individuals who are doing their jobs away from the public eye.

The film series consists of three parts, each with a separate title and highlighting a different side of Cambodia’s vibrant cultural landscape:

Roots: Part 1, produced in partnership with 3CORsECO. This episode features two characters in the jungles of northern Cambodia who are working to preserve the culture of the indigenous Kuy people: a former refugee turned community architect who brings his skills and personal experiences of displacement to help the indigenous Kuy community by designing homes, building and establishing a cashew nut enterprise that helps keep their livelihoods firmly rooted in their homeland, and a young indigenous Kuy woman who is using her voice and public presence to keep her traditions alive.

Water Current: Part 2, produced in partnership with Khmer Ocean Life. This episode follows the lives of two Cambodians, one from a landlocked province and the other from the city, who find their way to the ocean unexpectedly as they search for solutions to the complexities of protecting the fragile marine ecosystem along Cambodia’s coastline.

Remastered: Part 3 Produced in partnership with Remade in Cambodia, the episode follows a young designer who refuses to give up on his dreams in an industry that has yet to open up to him, and a Cambodian woman in her 30s who creates an organization that recycles textile waste into fashionable clothing.

Three completely different worlds. But a meaningful question raised in all three stories is: What do we need to protect what is most precious to us?

“In a world where the loudest voice is valued, Cheryl Ng, founder of Human of This Planet, said: We intentionally choose to listen to the voices of those who bear great responsibility but are less heard and known. Storytelling is about systemic responsibility. As the world turns its attention to sustainability issues, this focus on personal storytelling aims to restore balance and determine who should be seen, who should receive funding and who should receive support at the grassroots level.”

The screening on June 19 at the French Institute in Cambodia will feature the three films, followed by a panel discussion and an open networking session with the documentary’s cast and crew. The film will be screened with subtitles in English and Khmer.
