Phnom Penh: Mr. Tep Asnarith, Undersecretary of State and Spokesperson of the Ministry of Information, urged young people to implement the “3 Dos and 1 Protect” approach to build social resilience and combat fake news in the digital era.
This encouragement was made in front of approximately 2,300 teachers and students when he was invited to participate as the host in the promotion ceremony of the second phase of the anti-fake news campaign organized by the Phnom Penh Capital Information Department on the morning of June 1, 2026 at Samdech Hun Sen High School, Phnom Penh Thmey.
He stated that the “3 Dos and 1 Protect” approach includes: 1. Don’t believe it yet: If you see strange or scary news, think about it first and don’t judge it as true, fearing that it is fabricated information to attract views. Second, don’t share: Take 15 seconds to check the source clearly. If it’s not clear, don’t share. Third, don’t be careless: Protect your account password, don’t let anyone know it, and don’t click on strange, suspicious links that don’t have a clear source. Part 1: Protect yourself, your family, and society by increasing “information and media literacy.”
The spokesperson for the Ministry of Information said, “In living in the digital world, young people today are facing three main dangers: 1. Fake news: such as fabricated stories and photo manipulations that create chaos in society; 2. Online scams, where scammers send fraudulent links to steal data and accounts; and 3. Verbal threats through the use of insults and posting mocking photos online.”
On that occasion, Mr. Hem Sinareth, Director of the Phnom Penh Department of Education, Youth, and Sports, the principal, teachers, and students of Samdech Hun Sen Phnom Penh Thmey High School fully supported the Ministry of Information’s “Campaign Against Fake News, Phase 2,” by actively cooperating and committing to eliminating fake news. By strengthening the spirit of critical thinking and verifying clearly before believing or sharing to avoid the risks and consequences caused by spreading false information on social media.
The “Say No to Fake News” campaign, step 2, under the theme “Strengthening Information and Media Literacy for Information Safety” was officially launched on May 18, 2026 at Samdech Hun Sen Bun Rany Wat Phnom High School under the chairmanship of Mr. Neth Pheaktra, Minister of Information.
Please note that improving the level of information and media literacy is an important factor in building resilience in Cambodian families and communities. It will help strengthen the ability of the authorities to prevent and control all risks and consequences caused by the dissemination of false information, harmful information and malicious propaganda.
