Takeo: Mr. Wei Samnang, Governor of Takeo Province, has instructed and strictly prohibited Cambodian citizens who have farmland along the border with Vietnam from renting their farmland to Vietnamese people.
The Governor instructed district authorities and officers stationed along the border to examine and monitor this case clearly. According to the voice message of His Excellency the Governor on June 2, 2026.
The Governor said that in the past, the Ministry of Interior as well as the Royal Government have already issued a letter of instruction to border provinces prohibiting the leasing of rice fields along the border to foreigners. Therefore, relevant authorities, including authorities stationed along the border, must prevent and examine this case clearly and must instruct citizens with large amounts of rice fields not to lease them to Vietnamese people because it causes difficulties and complications related to leasing rice fields.
The Governor added that “Regarding the issue of leasing rice fields to foreigners, if any official conspires to lease rice fields to foreigners, they must be held accountable before the law without any favoritism.”
Wei Samnang also highlighted the efforts of the Royal Government of Cambodia to build infrastructure along the border in order to promote development and improve the livelihoods of people living along the border, especially the construction of the border ring road to protect the territorial integrity of Cambodia.
