Phnom Penh: Cambodia and Germany are highly committed to coordinating and cooperating closely to encourage more investment from Germany to Cambodia, aiming to bring mutual benefits.
On Wednesday, June 3, 2026, Mr. Sun Chanthol, Deputy Prime Minister and First Vice President of the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC), received a courtesy call and discussed work with a delegation from the German Bundestag, led by Mr. Thomas Rachel, Member of the Committee on Economic Cooperation and Development of the German Bundestag, during the delegation’s official visit to Cambodia from June 1 to 3, 2026.
On that occasion, the German side also highly appreciated the frank and fraternal exchange of views on a number of strategic topics, including: The direction of the upcoming commune-sangkat and national elections, Cambodia’s adaptation to global changes, the promotion of women’s roles in the state sector, and the Royal Government of Cambodia’s foreign direct investment (FDI) promotion strategy.
Speaking in response to the investment promotion strategy, the Deputy Prime Minister informed the delegation about Cambodia’s competitive advantages, including strong political and macroeconomic stability, attention to human resource training, and sharp reforms aimed at facilitating the business environment.
He emphasized the benefits of the Kingdom of Cambodia’s investment law, which is open and provides high incentives, as well as mechanisms to support and effectively address challenges for the private sector through direct dialogue, including: the Government-Private Sector Forum (G-PSF), the Public-Private Sector Dialogue (PPSD), and the P-PS Breakfast Briefing, where the government institutions closely cooperated with the International Chamber of Commerce and related institutions.
In addition, the Deputy Prime Minister also presented the progress of Cambodia’s strategic infrastructure development, especially the expansion plan of the Sihanoukville Deepwater Port and the Funan Techo Canal project, which will significantly reduce transportation costs and strengthen Cambodia’s logistics competitiveness in the region.
In conclusion, both sides expressed their mutual goodwill to continue to maintain and enhance this good relationship and committed to coordinating and cooperating closely to encourage more German investment in Cambodia in the future, with the aim of bringing mutual benefits to the nations and people of both countries.
