Foreign: Lebanon and Israel said on Wednesday they had agreed to implement a ceasefire after talks in Washington aimed at ending a conflict that has flared up alongside a war in Iran.

According to Reuters, published on June 4, 2026, the ceasefire is conditional on a complete cessation of fire by the Iran-aligned Hezbollah militia and the evacuation of all its personnel from the southern Litani region, according to a joint statement released with the United States.

“Both sides agreed with the US directive to promote the rapid establishment of a test zone where the Lebanese armed forces would control the territory exclusively, excluding all non-state actors,” they said.

Israel and Lebanon previously agreed to a ceasefire in April, which was then extended in May, but violence continues.
