Phnom Penh: Former workers who wish to cross the border to Thailand should not risk crossing the border illegally because they may face arrest, deportation, and many other risks. Instead, look for job opportunities in the country, which are rich and have many benefits. This was the appeal of Mr. Sun Mesa, spokesperson for the Ministry of Labor and Vocational Training, on June 4.

Mr. Sun Mesa said: “Please, former workers, do not risk crossing the border illegally. Cambodia currently has many job opportunities in the industrial, service, construction, agricultural and other sectors that are in great need of labor. At the same time, domestic workers also receive benefits from the social security system (SSS), better wages and working conditions.

According to Mr. Sun Mesa, former workers who returned from Thailand can register to find work at the National Employment and Labor Agency (NEA) or at various job centers in the provinces and capitals. To get information about free job opportunities, you can contact the Hotline number 1297.

The spokesperson reminded former workers returning from Thailand not to trust brokers or to be lured into illegal border crossings, as this could pose a risk to their safety, freedom, and livelihood. If you want to work abroad, please follow the legal procedures or choose the job opportunities available in the country.

Please note that the call by the Ministry of Labor spokesperson comes amid ongoing reports that Thai authorities have arrested and deported Cambodian workers who crossed the border illegally. On June 3, 2026, Thai authorities sent 30 Cambodian workers through the Ban Laem border crossing, while another 6 Cambodian workers were arrested by Thai soldiers in Aranh district, Sa Kaeo province, on June 2, 2026, in connection with illegally crossing the border into Thailand.
