Phnom Penh: Mr. Sar Sokha, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Interior and Chairman of the National Committee for Road Traffic Safety, observed that after Cambodia’s clash with Thailand, the ministry suspended fines for drivers who violate traffic laws, but traffic accidents increased.

On the occasion of presiding over the 17th National Road Safety Week at Prek Kampong Bay Beach on the morning of June 15, 2026, Mr. Sar Sokha said that after Cambodia had a conflict with Thailand regarding border issues, the Ministry of Interior decided to suspend fines for traffic violations and instead issued guidelines, but some important measures continue to be implemented, especially alcohol testing and explosive weapons testing, etc.
He said that after the suspension of fines, traffic accidents have increased. Therefore, the Deputy Prime Minister asked all citizens who are vehicle users to strictly abide by traffic laws in order to jointly reduce traffic accidents to the lowest possible level.
The Minister called on road users and transport companies to implement the slogan “Today, Tomorrow” to avoid traffic accidents by paying attention to driving responsibly. In this regard, important measures must be implemented such as: driving correctly, not exceeding the speed limit, not driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs, not driving while drowsy, wearing a helmet, wearing a seat belt, keeping to the right, checking vehicle specifications, and always being careful.
