Russian security services foil terror plot on railway in Yaroslavl region

Foreign Affairs: Xinhua News Agency reported today that Russian security services have arrested a man in the Yaroslavl region who is accused of organizing a terrorist attack on railway infrastructure on the orders of the Ukrainian intelligence service.

The regional press office of the Yaroslavl Main Directorate under the Federal Security Service (FSB) was quoted as saying that the suspect was caught while attempting to prepare to install homemade explosives on a railway track.

The suspect, a resident of Rybinsk, born in 2003, has been under long-term operational surveillance by security officials. The FSB said it had documented several cases of illegal activity by the suspect targeting both energy and transport infrastructure.

It is worth noting that following the arrest, the FSB’s investigative department in Yaroslavl opened a criminal case against the suspect on charges of attempted terrorism.
