Kampong Thom: Mr. Chhay Rithsen, Minister of Rural Development, together with the leadership and technical officers of the ministry and the Kampong Thom Provincial Rural Development Department, on June 17, 2026, visited the progress of road projects in 9 locations and inspected the condition of 2 dilapidated bridges in Kampong Thom province.

The roads and bridges include:
Location 1: Work to upgrade the quality of a 1.10-kilometer, 6-meter-wide double-decker asphalt road (DBST) and a 1.5-meter-wide gravel-mixed road connecting Banteay Stoung village to Chambok Panha village, Banteay Stoung commune, Stoung district, Kampong Thom province. On this road, two concrete bridges have been constructed, the first of which is 60 meters long and 8 meters wide, and the second is 30 meters long and 8 meters wide. The road and bridge directly benefit the people of Banteay Stoung commune, a total of 2,167 families, equivalent to 8,229 people. The road and bridge are part of the development project of the Ministry of Rural Development and are being constructed by the Engineering Corps of the Ministry of National Defense.

Location 2: Invited to inspect the condition of the old and narrow cable-stayed bridge, which is 60 meters long and 1.20 meters wide, across the Stung Stung River, connecting Prum Srey Village, Rung Rung Commune To Chambak Panha, Banteay Sung Commune, Sung District, which has 3 villages, a total of approximately 900 families, that depend on this bridge.

Location 3: Invited to inspect the condition of the old, dilapidated wooden bridge, 93 meters long and 1.2 meters wide, across the Sung River, connecting Trapaeng Pring Village to O Angkor Village Banteay Stoung commune, Stoung district, which has 05 villages with a total population of 767 families, equal to 3,771 people.

Location 4: Invited to inspect the quality of the double-layer asphalt road (DBST) and concrete pavement, with a total length of 8.71 kilometers and a width of 8 meters, connecting Banteay Stoung village Banteay Stoung commune to Kandol Chas village, Preah Damrey commune, Stoung district, with 2,983 direct beneficiaries, equivalent to 11,649 people, and 6,742 indirect beneficiaries, equivalent to 28,657 people. The road is 100% completed in May 2025.

Location 5: Invited to inspect the quality of the double-layer asphalt road (DBST) and concrete pavement, with a total length of 8.90 kilometers and a width of 7 meters, connecting Nimmit Village to Chhouk Romduol Village, Tipo Commune, Santuk District, Kampong Thom Province. This road has 892 direct beneficiaries, equivalent to 3,485 people, and 3,077 indirect beneficiaries, equivalent to 11,726 people. The road construction began in August 2025, with 44.50% progress and is scheduled to be completed in August 2026.

Location 6: Invited to inspect the quality of the double-layer asphalt road (DBST) and concrete pavement, 4.45 km long and 8 meters wide, connecting the village of Machay to the village of Daun Lao Sampruch commune, Stoung district, Kampong Thom province. This road has 1,277 direct beneficiaries, equivalent to 6,216 people, and 3,223 indirect beneficiaries, equivalent to 15,303 people. The road was 100% completed in May 2025. The three roads are part of the Sustainable Rural Infrastructure Support for Farmers’ Markets and Agricultural Commercialization (SAAMBAT) project, funded by the Royal Government of Cambodia, the International Fund for Agricultural Development, the European Investment Bank, and the European Union’s Asian Investment Fund.

Location 7: Invited to inspect the construction of a double-decker asphalt road (DBST) with a total length of 9.50 kilometers and a width of 5 meters, connecting Int Koma village to Ta Paong village, Kampong Svay commune, Kampong Svay district, with 1,150 direct beneficiaries, equivalent to 5,327 people, and 3,508 indirect beneficiaries, equivalent to 15,766 people. The road is under construction and has achieved 80% progress.

Location 8: Invited to inspect the construction work of the double-decker asphalt road (DBST) with a total length of 14.60 kilometers and a width of 5 meters, connecting Kampong Chheuteal village to Prasat Sambor village, Sambor commune, Prasat Sambor district, with 1,189 direct beneficiaries, equivalent to 4 763 direct beneficiaries and 2,514 indirect beneficiaries, equal to 10,595 people. The road is under construction with 53% progress.

Location 9: Invited to inspect the construction work of the double-decker asphalt road (DBST) with a total length of 6.80 kilometers and a width of 5 meters, connecting Kampong Chheuteal village to Kok Sok village, Taing Krasao commune, Prasat Sambor district, with 561 direct beneficiaries equal to 2,474 people and 2,134 indirect beneficiaries, equal to 8,842 families. The road is under construction with a progress of 76%.
Location 10: Invited to inspect the construction work of a double-decker asphalt road (DBST) with a total length of 5.30 kilometers and a width of 5 meters, connecting Taing Krasao village to Prasat Sambor village, Taing Krasao commune, Prasat Sambor district, with 490 direct beneficiaries, equal to 2,400 people and 2,05 indirect beneficiaries, equal to 8,916 families. The road is under construction with a progress of 46%. The construction of the four roads above began in March 2025 and is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2026, under the Rural Infrastructure Development for Cambodia (RID4CAM) program, with cooperation funding from the European Union Fund (EU/AIF), the French Agency for Development (AFD), and the German Development Bank (KfW).
Location 11: Invited to inspect the condition of the 32-kilometer road, passing through 9 villages in 3 communes in Santuk and Prasat Sambor districts, with 2,278 families, or 8,582, directly benefiting from the road and 4,811 families, or 19,593, indirectly benefiting from it. This road has great potential to boost economic growth by connecting one district to another through tourism, agriculture, and the rubber industry, but it is currently in a very bad state. After examining the actual situation, the Minister instructed the technical officers of the Ministry and the Provincial Rural Development Department to include this road in the development partnership project of the Ministry of Rural Development.
Please be informed that the purpose of the inspection is to inspect the construction techniques to ensure the quality of the construction. The Minister instructed the contractor to strictly comply with the technical standards. On the other hand, in accordance with the requests of the authorities as well as the local residents who find it difficult to travel due to the old and narrow bridge, during the actual inspection, the Minister also instructed the Provincial Rural Development Department to study the possibility of building a steel belt bridge to facilitate the travel and transportation of agricultural products of the residents.
