Phnom Penh: A newborn Mekong River dolphin was spotted in Kampi Dolphin Canyon in Kampi Village, Sambok Commune, Chet Borei District, Kratie Province on April 27, 2026.

Please note that this dolphin was discovered by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries’ news production team at 3:20 p.m. and was also verified by the research team of the General Department of Fisheries, Kratie Fisheries Administration District, and WWF. The baby dolphin is about 3 days old, healthy, and swimming with a group of about 6 other adult dolphins.

This is the sixth baby dolphin recorded in early 2026. The new arrival of the dolphin brings the total number of Mekong River dolphins in Cambodia to 118.

The Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries would like to express its deepest gratitude to the river guards, local authorities and all citizens. who are always actively involved in preserving and protecting this valuable fishery resource. Joint efforts between government institutions, partner organizations and local communities are key to maintaining the continued growth of dolphins.
Along with these excellent results, the Ministry calls on all fishermen and citizens to continue their cooperation and join in protecting dolphins, our living national treasure, by participating in preserving the river environment and following the instructions of river guards so that these young dolphins can grow up safely.
