Samdech Kittiprittbandit Bun Rany: Midwives, essential care providers during pregnancy

Phnom Penh: Samdech Kittiprittbandit Bun Rany Hun Sen said that midwives are the key to ensuring the safety of mothers and babies because they provide essential care during pregnancy.

These are the words of Samdech Kittipritbandit Bun Rany Hun Sen, President of the Cambodian Red Cross and a national figure of the Joint Action Plan with the United Nations Secretary-General for Women and Children’s Health, on the occasion of the International Day of the Midwife, May 5, 2026, under the theme: The World Needs 1 Million More Midwives.

Samdech Kittipritbandit Bun Rany Hun Sen said that midwives provide essential care during pregnancy, helping to ensure safe childbirth and ensuring the care of mothers and babies after birth.

The Prime Minister added that at the same time, the midwifery profession is a noble profession that saves lives and gives hope to families and helps every child start life with dignity and thorough care. Everyone’s future depends on the health of babies and mothers.

The Prime Minister called on all pregnant women to have regular health check-ups, give birth at health centers or hospitals with qualified doctors and midwives, and receive post-natal care for both mothers and babies. At the same time, the Prime Minister also called on husbands, families, communities, public institutions, development partners, and all relevant partners to continue to support pregnant women.
