The 5th typhoon is named Hagupit! The Ministry of Water Resources calls for high caution regarding rain, thunderstorms, and strong winds, especially when traveling by land and water.

Phnom Penh: The Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology on May 7, 2026, issued a statement on the status of Typhoon Hagupit. The ministry said that the low pressure area over the Western Pacific Ocean has developed into Typhoon Hagupit T2605 and is affecting the southwest monsoon regime over the Bay of Bengal, Andaman Sea, South China Sea, Mekong River Basin, Cambodian Sea, and the Kingdom of Cambodia. The Kingdom of Cambodia is not in the path of this storm.

Such conditions will cause the weather from 10 to 25 May 2026:
1. Lowland areas: Banteay Meanchey, Battambang, Pursat, Kampong Chhnang, Siem Reap, Kampong Thom, Kampong Cham, Tbong Khmum, Prey Veng, Kandal, Takeo, Svay Rieng and Phnom Penh to experience rain with thunderstorms and gusty winds covering 30% of the area.
2. Highland areas: Kampong Speu, Pailin, Oddar Meanchey, Preah Vihear, Kratie, Stung Treng, Ratanakiri, Mondulkiri, Dangrek mountain range and Cardamom mountain range to experience rain with thunderstorms and gusty winds covering 25% of the area.
3. Coastal areas: Koh Kong, Sihanoukville, Kampot, Kep and Bokor mountain range There may be rain with thunderstorms and gusty winds covering 25% of the land area, strong waves with an average minimum height of 0.50 meters and an average maximum height of 1.75 meters.

Based on the forecast as mentioned above, the public is requested to be very careful of the phenomena of rain, thunderstorms and gusty winds that may occur frequently during the early rainy season, especially those traveling by land and sea.
