Phnom Penh: On May 7, 2026, Mr. Hem Vandy, Minister of Industry, Science, Technology and Innovation, participated as a speaker in the high-level discussion of the Cambodia Investment Forum. At the forum, the Minister said that targeted support is needed to connect SMEs to the FDI supply chain.
The Minister highlighted the need for streamlining public services and supporting all actors, including the financial sector, to enable SMEs to strengthen their capacity and connect to the rapidly growing FDI projects in Cambodia.
The Minister also stressed that the establishment of SME zones near, adjacent to or within Special Economic Zones (SEZs) is a key measure to strengthen the trans-industry, allowing local enterprises to supply to factories producing for export.
At the same time, the Minister stated that the development of micro-enterprises SMEs need support from a strong national quality infrastructure system, especially in terms of standards, testing and certification services, to meet the needs of large-scale industries and export markets.
The minister added that “with the right and targeted support, SMEs can expand, supply foreign direct investment projects and play a more important role in Cambodia’s industrial future.”
