Phnom Penh: Samdech Techo Hun Sen, Prime Minister of Cambodia, has highlighted that the role of the Malaysian Prime Minister reflects the spirit of solidarity of ASEAN member states in ensuring stability, prosperity and sustainability in the ASEAN region.
Samdech Techo Hun Sen made the remarks during a bilateral meeting with Anwar Ibrahim, Prime Minister of Malaysia, on the afternoon of May 8, 2026, on the occasion of the invitation to attend the 48th ASEAN Summit in Cebu, Republic of the Philippines.

During the meeting, Mr. Anwar Ibrahim expressed satisfaction with the bilateral relations and underlined his determination to continue to promote these relations to be more prosperous, comprehensive and stronger, especially expanding cooperation in potential areas for the benefit of the nations and people of both countries.
In response, the President thanked Mr. Anwar Ibrahim for playing an active role in facilitating two ceasefires between Cambodia and Thailand, on July 28 and December 27, 2025. The Prime Minister emphasized that “the role of His Excellency the Prime Minister of Malaysia reflects the spirit of solidarity of ASEAN member states, which has played an important role in ensuring stability, prosperity and sustainability in the ASEAN region.”

In addition, the Prime Minister also discussed with Anwar Ibrahim about promoting trade and investment cooperation. In particular, the focus is on the Halal Industry, an industry with high potential for Cambodia in trade relations with Malaysia.
The Prime Minister also thanked the Malaysian government for supporting Cambodia and sending halal food technicians to Cambodia to prepare infrastructure and support platforms to enable Cambodia to become a country that has the right to export halal food.
Before concluding, the two heads of government also discussed maintaining stability and peace in the region, as well as strengthening and expanding bilateral cooperation between Cambodia and Malaysia in the fields of national defense and security.
