Phnom Penh: At the 48th ASEAN Summit in Cebu, Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen also raised the humanitarian impact of tensions in the Middle East, including the safety and well-being of ASEAN citizens.

This is according to a press release from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation on the outcomes of the 48th ASEAN Summit in Cebu, Philippines.
On energy security and resilience, the Prime Minister emphasized the importance of accelerating the ratification and implementation of the ASEAN Framework Agreement on Fuel Security, as well as promoting the ASEAN Power Grid (APG) and the Trans-ASEAN Gas Pipeline to strengthen energy resilience and supply flexibility in the region.
Regarding food security, the Prime Minister emphasized the importance of strengthening regional food systems and enhancing ASEAN’s preparedness through closer cooperation and effective implementation of existing regional mechanisms, including the ASEAN Plus Three Emergency Rice Reserve (APTERR) mechanism. and the ASEAN Food Security Information System.
The Prime Minister also reaffirmed Cambodia’s readiness, as a food surplus country, to contribute meaningfully to the region’s efforts on food security.
The Prime Minister also addressed the humanitarian impact of the tensions in the Middle East, including the safety and well-being of ASEAN citizens in the affected areas.

The President expressed his pleasure at seeing ASEAN member countries helping each other in accordance with the Declaration on Guidelines on Consular Cooperation by ASEAN Missions in Third Countries to Citizens of Other ASEAN Member Countries and the Guidelines on the Provision of Emergency Assistance by ASEAN Missions in Third Countries to Citizens of ASEAN Member Countries in Emergencies.
It is recalled that on May 8, 2026, at the invitation of Mr. Ferdinand Romualdez Marcos President Xi Jinping and the 2026 ASEAN Chair, Samdech Techo Hun Sen, Prime Minister of Cambodia, have been invited to attend the 48th ASEAN Summit in Cebu City, Philippines.
