Phnom Penh: On May 8, 2026, the Ministry of Industry, Science, Technology and Innovation announced the launch of a new project under the Mekong-Lancang Cooperation Framework to promote productivity and digitalization among micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) in Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam through policy support and regional knowledge sharing.

The launching ceremony of the project was co-chaired by Mr. Hem Vandy, Minister of Industry, Science, Technology and Innovation, and Mr. Wang Wenbin, Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to Cambodia, with the participation of representatives of ministries, institutions, the Lao Embassy and the Vietnamese Embassy in Cambodia, development partners, and the private sector.
Mr. Hem Vandy highlighted the important role of micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises, which are the backbone of the national economy, not only creating jobs and increasing income, but also being key players in promoting innovation and sustainable development.
The Minister said, “In the rapidly changing global economic context, digital technology and innovation have become a catalyst in determining the competitiveness of micro, small and medium-sized enterprises as well as the resilience of national and regional economies.”

Ambassador Wang Wenbin said that this year marks the 10th anniversary of the Lancang-Mekong Cooperation Framework. Which has become a model of regional cooperation and development.
He added, "The Chinese government is committed to continuing to work closely with the Mekong countries to strengthen the framework of the second generation of Lancang-Mekong Cooperation (LMC 2.0) in solidarity and openness, based on the principles of win-win, green innovation, peace and prosperity, to jointly build a new golden decade of Lancang-Mekong Cooperation."
