Kandal Provincial Police solves kidnapping and murder case of 5-year-old girl in Saang district, arrests suspect as uncle

Kandal: The Information and Rapid Response Team of the Kandal Provincial Police Department has issued a press release clarifying the shocking murder case caused by kidnapping and extortion, which resulted in the death of a young girl in Prek Ambel commune, Sa Ang district.

Following the direct orders of General Sar Thet, Commissioner-General of the National Police, and Kuoch Chamroeun, Governor of Kandal Province, Major General Chhoeun Sochit, Commissioner of Kandal Provincial Police, led a team of experts to conduct an intensive investigation, leading to the arrest of 1 suspect in succession.

Suspect: Kim Vanna, male, 35 years old (the victim’s uncle), residence: Kon Chre village, Prek Ambel commune, Sa Ang district, Kandal province. Urine test result: Negative (-) (no drugs).

The tragic incident occurred on May 10, 2026 at 8:30 a.m. at the suspect’s house. The victim is Ratana Mengsim, 05 years old, from Kampong Samhanh 1 village, Takhmao city.

According to authorities, every weekend, the victim’s parents usually took the victim to visit her grandparents’ house in Sa Ang district, which is located opposite the suspect’s house. Taking advantage of that opportunity, the suspect took action to kidnap the girl with the aim of extorting money, but unfortunately, it resulted in the girl’s death.

In front of the police, the suspect confessed that he had indeed acted alone. The reason he decided to do this was because he had resentment that the victim’s mother looked down on his family and was angry with the victim’s mother for not letting him borrow money.

The authorities confiscated 2 mobile phones, a Nokia flashlight and a black OPPO, which were used in the activity. Currently, the suspect has been filed with the authorities according to the procedure to be sent to the Kandal Provincial Court for action in accordance with the law in force.

The Kandal Provincial Police Department also called on the public to be aware of the information and increase caution for the safety of young children, even if they are in close relatives.
