Preah Vihear: On the morning of May 16, 2026, the Labor, Social Security, and Vocational Training Forum under the theme “Khmer Help Find Jobs and Provide Jobs for Khmer” was organized at the New Preah Vihear District School, with the participation of more than 700 representatives of relevant parties, citizens, and local youth. The purpose of the forum was to provide special opportunities for citizens, especially former workers who returned from Thailand and local youth, to obtain decent jobs, vocational training, free accommodation, and safe and high-income work opportunities abroad.

Mr. Yim Sinon, Secretary of State, High Representative of Mr. Heng Sour, Minister of Labor and Vocational Training, highlighted that in this job forum, representatives of three large factories and enterprises came to directly recruit personnel for a total of more than 5,000 labor positions, out of a total of more than 90,000 job opportunities nationwide.

At the same time, he raised a detailed comparison between local work and work in Thailand, explaining that going to work in Thailand can face high risks in terms of safety, labor exploitation, discrimination, violence, living away from family, and lack of health care both now and in the future. In particular, for domestic work, in addition to being a strong foundation for the family economy and a warm life together, workers will receive a social security system (SSS) that provides numerous benefits from the day they start working, including protection against occupational risks with safety and high responsibility, free health care services that encourage regular health check-ups, help improve health, and prevent serious diseases in a timely manner, as well as receiving a pension or retirement income like civil servants, which helps ease the family burden and ensure a decent living in old age.

In addition, the Secretary of State also encouraged former workers returning from Thailand to try and seize the local job opportunities that are being offered to have income to support their families temporarily or to decide to apply to work in other countries with higher salaries and greater security, such as Japan, Korea, Singapore, etc. He reminded that this point is very important, especially for those in Preah Vihear province, which has suffered serious damage from the Thai invasion war in the past. In cases where young people or former workers do not intend to work in factories or go abroad, he recommended choosing to take technical and vocational training through the 1.5 million TVET program, which is a free study program and provides monthly stipends in various skills including construction, repairing machinery, electrical equipment, air conditioning, baking, coffee making, and makeup, hair styling, nail art, etc., to create their own businesses. He emphasized that having real skills is a strong foundation for increasing income and improving the family economy.

Meanwhile, the Secretary of State urged all citizens to record and remember the Hotline number 1297 of the Ministry of Labor and Vocational Training for use in registering for a job or asking for other information in a timely and efficient manner.
