Phnom Penh: Minister of Information Neth Pheaktra said that today’s youth must build resilience to resist and oppose fake news so as not to fall into the trap of the digital world. According to a press release from the Ministry of Information.
Minister Neth Pheaktra’s remarks were made at the opening ceremony of the “Say No to Fake News” campaign, Step 2, Strengthening Information and Media Literacy for Information Security on May 18, 2026, at the Hun Sen Bun Rany High School, Wat Phnom, Phnom Penh.
The campaign acts as a defense system and a strategic mechanism in digital literacy that focuses on enhancing the ability of youth to prevent and avoid the traps of political manipulation, fraud, and modern technology crimes. The campaign will equip youth with information literacy and media literacy skills and orient them to become information security agents with a sense of ownership in verifying and disseminating only true information that is valuable for families and communities.
Speaking to students on the occasion, Mr. Neth Pheaktra emphasized that “today’s youth not only need to keep up with technology for the sake of their studies, but also need to build resilience to resist and counter fake news so as not to fall into the trap of the digital world. “Children must strengthen themselves to become strong information security agents to purify the information space in society, protect families and communities from the risks and dangers of distortion, exaggeration, fraud and social pollution.”
The launch of this second phase of the campaign is a testament to the unwavering commitment of the Royal Government and the Ministry of Information to strengthen information security and build digital resilience for all citizens, especially to protect Cambodian youth from the disaster of fake news.
The Ministry of Information leads the implementation of this campaign nationwide in collaboration with ministries, state and private institutions, while at the sub-national level, it is coordinated by the information departments of the capital and provinces, in close collaboration with the capital and provincial administrations, the Department of Education, Youth and Sports, as well as local authorities and relevant organizations at all levels.
It should be noted that the implementation of this second phase builds on the success of the first phase campaign, which has been implemented since April 2025 across 25 capitals and provinces.
The first phase campaign provided information and media literacy knowledge, including digital literacy, to nearly 10 million citizens through direct outreach activities and distributed messages to a total of more than 23 million mobile phone users nationwide in cooperation with the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications.
