Interior Minister: 300,000 foreigners have been detained, deported and voluntarily left

Phnom Penh: Regarding the issue of Online Scams! Deputy Prime Minister Sar Sokha, Minister of the Ministry of Interior, said that so far, approximately 300,000 foreigners have been detained, deported and voluntarily departed.

Deputy Prime Minister Sar Sokha made the statement on the occasion of receiving Mr. PEDRO ZWAHLEN, Ambassador of the Swiss Confederation to Cambodia, and his colleagues in a courtesy meeting and work discussion at the International Reception Hall of the Ministry of Interior on the afternoon of May 27, 2026.

During the meeting, the Ambassador highly praised and encouraged the Royal Government of Cambodia in general and the Ministry of Interior in particular for their firm commitment to the operation to clean up online scams.

The Ambassador continued that cybercrime is indeed complex and interconnected. He acknowledged that the Royal Government of Cambodia and the Ministry of Interior are indeed overcoming difficulties, because it is difficult for His Excellency to imagine what will have to be done to solve the problem.

In response, the Head of the Ministry of Interior of Cambodia informed the Ambassador that, “So far, approximately 300,000 foreigners have been detained, deported and voluntarily left, while some ringleaders have been arrested and deported, and some are serving sentences.”

The Deputy Prime Minister highlighted that the authorities have managed to clean up this crime on a large scale in many places, but some of the remaining criminals have been hiding and operating on a small scale, which have also been arrested by the authorities in accordance with Sub-Decree No. 3 and the Law on Combating Fraud through Technology Systems.
