Two ministers sign memorandum of understanding on “Cooperation and partnership on promoting tourism and rural development”

Phnom Penh: The Ministry of Rural Development and the Ministry of Tourism, as the executive bodies of the 7th term of the National Assembly and under the “Life of a Single Actor System” approach, on the morning of June 1, 2026, organized a signing ceremony for a memorandum of understanding on “Partnership Cooperation on Promoting Tourism and Rural Development” under the high chairmanship of Mr. Chhay Rithsen, Minister of Rural Development, and Mr. Huot Hak, Minister of Tourism, at the Ministry of Rural Development.

The signing ceremony of the memorandum of understanding is to strengthen and expand cooperation between the two ministries to further improve and promote the development of tourism and rural communities to be more prosperous, sustainable and environmentally friendly. Through this joint energy mechanism, the two ministries will promote economic, social and cultural development in all rural communities and tourist destinations in the Kingdom of Cambodia, which are considered Cambodia’s “green gold”, by utilizing existing resources to the fullest and most efficiently.

This memorandum has three main objectives as follows:

1. Strengthen and expand cooperation between the two parties to promote the development of tourism in rural areas through resilient rural road connections, promoting rural water supply and sanitation, promoting rural community development and model villages, and diversifying the economy to increase rural household income.
2. Increase the efficiency of public service delivery and improve the living conditions of rural people and tourists, aiming to ensure sustainable and environmentally friendly development.
3. Exchange and share experiences, techniques and information related to rural development and tourism to promote co-generation development and make the most of existing resources.
