Phnom Penh: Samdech Thibhatei Hun Manet, Prime Minister of Cambodia, told UNAIDS that the Royal Government continues to prioritize and consider the people as the core through health promotion, education and job creation, which are the strong foundation of the nation.

President Hun Sen’s remarks were made during a courtesy call on Eamonn Murphy, Regional Director for Asia-Pacific, Eastern Europe and Central Asia of the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS), on June 12, 2026, at the Peace Palace.

During the meeting, Regional Director Eamonn Murphy expressed his high appreciation for the attention and leadership of the Royal Government of Cambodia in promoting public health, especially the introduction and implementation of the National Policy Framework on Social Protection.

Furthermore, the Regional Director congratulated Cambodia on its success in achieving the global HIV 95-95-95 targets (95% of people living with HIV know their HIV status, 95% of those who know their HIV status receive antiretroviral treatment, and 95% of those on antiretroviral treatment have a low HIV viral load), which aims to end AIDS as a major public health threat by 2030.

The Regional Director further highlighted that Cambodia is one of seven countries in the world and the first country in the Asia-Pacific region that can successfully achieve this global goal and encouraged Cambodia to share its successful experience with countries around the world. In response, the President highly appreciated the role of the United Nations in contributing to the socio-economic development of Cambodia, especially in the health sector of Cambodia, as well as supporting the program to fight AIDS in Cambodia. The President also emphasized that both the previous governments and the 7th government, the government still gives high priority and considers the people as the core through promoting health, education and job creation, which is a strong foundation for supporting the nation’s progress.

In addition, the King emphasized that the Royal Government always pays high attention to and strives to promote the health sector by improving the health infrastructure at both the national and local levels. At the same time, the President added that although Cambodia has achieved many achievements in the health sector, Cambodia still considers AIDS and other infectious diseases as a major risk to public health that the Royal Government must continue to address and pay high attention to.
