Phnom Penh: The Ministry of Public Works and Highways has deployed a special task force to track down three overweight vehicles with state license plates, causing great surprise to travelers on National Road 5 on May 1, 2026.

According to messages from citizens traveling on National Road 5 The Deum Ampil News Agency reported that on May 1, 2026, on National Road 5, at kilometer 235, heading towards Battambang, three large trucks with fake license plates were driving full-on, disturbing travelers, especially causing further traffic congestion.

Regarding the above case, the Ministry of Public Information and Communications announced through Facebook that on the night of June 31 to 1, 2026, following the direct orders of the Minister and Chairman of the Steering Committee for the Inspection of Overweight Vehicles, a special task force led by Mr. Ek Rath, Undersecretary of State and Head of the Team, in collaboration with officers from the Muang Warehouse Station, cracked down on heavy vehicles carrying overweight vehicles at two different locations, obtaining the following results:
- On National Road 55, Km. 3, Bakan District, Pursat Province, two vehicles, semi-trailers with 6-axle trailers, were inspected, with a total weight of 87 tons and 90 tons, equivalent to 42 tons of excess weight, and 45 tons.
- On National Road 5, between km 191 and km 192, Bakan District, Pursat Province, four vehicles, 4-axle trucks, were inspected, with a total weight of between 38 tons and 45 tons, equivalent to an excess weight of 8 tons to 15 tons.
