Phnom Penh: Mr. Sante Bantit Chhay Sinarith, Senior Minister in Charge of Special Missions and Head of the Secretariat of the Anti-Technology Fraud Commission (ACFC), on June 3, 2026, allowed Mr. Kim Chang Yong, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Cambodia, to pay a courtesy call and discuss work.
During the meeting, the Minister highly appreciated the cooperation between Cambodia and the Republic of Korea in all fields since the reestablishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries for nearly 30 years. Meanwhile, cooperation in the field of security and the fight against transnational crimes, including cybercrime, has been consistently yielding fruitful results.
Mr. Santibandit highlighted that the Royal Government of Cambodia has the political will and firm determination to implement measures to suppress and dismantle cybercrime networks in accordance with the Law on Combating Cybercrime. Mr. Santibandit highlighted the many achievements of Cambodian competent authorities under the coordination and encouragement of the NCPC. Directly led by the Prime Minister and the Prime Minister, and which has achieved so far in the work of clearing up cybercrime.
The Ambassador informed that Cambodia will host an international conference on combating cybercrime in the future and invite countries and international organizations to participate, exchange and share experiences.
In response, the Ambassador thanked the Royal Government as well as the Cambodian authorities for their good cooperation in combating transnational crimes, including cybercrime, through the Cambodia-Korea Joint Working Group. The Ambassador expressed his satisfaction and appreciation for the efforts of the Royal Government of Cambodia in cracking down on cybercrime, as evidenced by the concrete results of the crackdown and the promulgation of the Law on Combating Cybercrime.
He noted that Cambodia’s crackdown on cybercrime could serve as a model for other countries. He acknowledged that cybercrime is a transnational crime that requires international cooperation. He also commended the Cambodian authorities and courts for providing justice to the Korean student victims by imposing severe punishments on the criminals, a move that has been widely applauded by Korean citizens. He expressed confidence in Cambodia’s commitment to continue to effectively crack down on cybercrime and highlighted the Korean side’s interest in participating in the upcoming international conference that Cambodia will host.
Before concluding, the two sides discussed and exchanged views on the latest developments and next steps in cooperation to combat cybercrime, information exchange, and joint training and capacity building for law enforcement officers.
