Minister Eang Sophallet: Using electric vehicles contributes to environmental protection

Phnom Penh: Dr. Eang Sophallet, Minister of Environment, said that the use of electric vehicles has made an important contribution to environmental protection, helping the green transportation sector and reducing climate change.

The Minister of Environment made this statement during the invitation to preside over the At the signing ceremony of the Memorandum of Understanding on “Cooperation in Environmental Protection and Promotion of the Use of Electric and Environmentally Friendly Vehicles in Cambodia” between the Ministry of Environment and One Road Indasam (Cambodia) Co., Ltd. on June 8, 2026, at the Ministry of Environment.

Dr. Eang Sophallet added that the use of electric vehicles (EV) is in line with the national policy of the Royal Government of Cambodia, which is strongly committed to responding to climate change by reducing greenhouse gas (carbon dioxide) emissions, reducing air pollution from vehicle fuel, and promoting green energy.

The doctor also said that the use of electric vehicles in Cambodia is a core strategy in implementing the Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) 3.0 by reducing greenhouse gas emissions from the transportation sector. At the same time, the Minister encouraged the public to participate in implementing the environmental sector chakra strategy to achieve the three pillars of cleanliness, greenness and sustainability to ensure the welfare and sustainable economy of Cambodia.

Please note that Cambodia promotes the use of electric vehicles (EV) to respond to climate policies By providing tax incentives, expanding infrastructure, and setting targets for reducing greenhouse gases to move towards carbon neutrality by 2050, Cambodia has committed to increasing the use of electric cars to between 35 and 40% and electric motorcycles to 70% by 2050.
