Cambodia, Vietnam set joint work goals to promote and increase tourist flows between each other and from third countries

Phnom Penh: The Ministry of Tourism of Cambodia and the Ministry of Tourism of Vietnam have agreed to set joint work directions to promote and increase the flow of tourists to each other and from third countries.

On the occasion of the official visit of Prime Minister Hun Sen Cambodian Prime Minister in the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, Mr. Huot Hak, Minister of Tourism, held bilateral talks with Ms. Lam Thi Phoung Thanh, Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Vietnam, on June 8, 2026.

During the meeting, Minister Huot Hak expressed his congratulations to Ms. Lam Thi Phoung Thanh for her appointment. Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Vietnam, and stressed that under the leadership of the Minister, tourism cooperation between the two countries will be further strengthened and expanded.

During this important meeting, the two ministers exchanged in-depth opinions and views on strengthening tourism cooperation in line with the spirit of the Of the Memorandum of Understanding on Tourism Cooperation between Cambodia and Vietnam, signed in 2023, with an agreement on the main work plan:

1. Promote tourism connectivity by all means, including land, water and air, in particular, agreement on connecting the maritime shipping line between Phu Quoc Island International Port and Kampot Province International Tourist Port and cruise tourism along the Mekong River of the two countries, connecting from Ho Chi Minh City to Phnom Penh and Siem Reap Province, and possibly connecting to Laos in the future, to promote tourism growth between the two countries and from third countries
2. Promote joint tourism events in border provinces between the two countries, including: tourism investment forums, tourism events, food tourism forums and sports tourism
3. Promote the connection of important tourist destinations between the two countries by promoting collaboration between the private sector in preparing joint tourism packages, especially preparing tourism packages to secondary destinations, to increase the length of stay of tourists in both countries, as well as diversifying joint tourism products.
4. Increase cooperation in training human resources in the tourism sector by exchanging tourism training in both countries, as both countries have training institutions for tourism professionals and are leading in the hospitality sector.
5. Promote exchange visits, learning for Influencers and the private sector of both countries to be able to come and explore the rich potential and continue to promote to the people of both countries as well as third countries.

To promote the implementation of the plan set out above in a practical and effective manner, a technical working group has been assigned to monitor the implementation for high efficiency And plans to continue reviewing progress at the first Cambodia-Laos-Vietnam Tourism Ministerial Meeting during the International Tourism Expo Ho Chi Minh City (ITE-HCMC) in August 2026 in Ho Chi Minh City.
