Environment Minister calls on authorities to take stricter legal action against offenders in nature protection areas

Phnom Penh: Dr. Eang Sophallet, Minister of Environment, thanked relevant authorities, journalists, citizens and civil society organizations for their cooperation and reporting on natural resource crimes, which is an important factor in helping law enforcement authorities crack down and arrest criminals and perpetrators in various nature protection areas.

At the same time, the Minister also requested the relevant authorities and authorities to take measures to investigate, investigate and arrest suspects in order to strictly follow the legal procedure, not excluding violators of the Environment and Natural Resources Code.

At the same time, the Minister of Environment made this statement on June 9, 2026, while there was a report from a working group of civil society organizations that there was a case of logging in the Prey Lang Wildlife Sanctuary, located in Sre Krom Village, Thmar Commune, Chey Sen District, Preah Vihear Province, on May 7, 2026.

He requested that the authorities take legal action against Yeng, who lives in Sre Veal village, Thmar commune, Chey Sen district, Preah Vihear province, who is suspected of being the mastermind behind the logging incident in Prey Lang Wildlife Sanctuary in Preah Vihear province.

The Ministry of Environment believes that the Ministry of Environment continues to encourage and call on citizens, local communities, journalists, partner organizations, civil society organizations, and the public to continue to cooperate, share, and report true information about natural resource crimes in nature protected areas.
