Turkey vows to increase ties and cooperation with Cambodia in the fields of environment and development

Phnom Penh: Mr. Mesut Özcan, the new Ambassador of the Republic of Turkey to Cambodia, during a meeting with Dr. Eang Sophallet, Minister of Environment on June 9, 2026, at the Ministry of Environment, expressed Turkey’s commitment to strengthening relations and increasing cooperation in many sectors with Cambodia, especially in the environment, clean energy investment, and responding to climate change.

The Turkish Ambassador thanked Cambodia for supporting Turkey in hosting the 31st United Nations Climate Change Conference  (UNFCCC) or COP31 and mentioned the invitation of the Head of the Royal Government of Cambodia, Samdech Maha Vajiralongkorn, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, and the delegation of the Royal Government of Cambodia to participate in the COP31 conference to be held in Antalya, Turkey, on November 9-20, 2026.

On that occasion, Dr. Eang Sophallet thanked Turkey for its support and participation in the development of Cambodia, especially in promoting diplomatic relations, economic, trade, tourism, education and environmental relations between the two countries, Cambodia and Turkey.

The Minister emphasized the invitation to participate in the COP31 meeting, which is an important event to which Cambodia, as a signatory country, has prepared and made a high commitment to participate in the COP31 climate summit (https://cop31.co.uk/) 2026, focusing on the Royal Government of Cambodia’s commitment to contribute to reducing greenhouse gas emissions and strengthening resilience to climate change. Cambodia’s position statement is linked to concrete actions, national strategies and international cooperation.
