Japanese government donates additional garbage trucks to strengthen Cambodia’s waste management

Phnom Penh: The Japanese government has provided 10 additional garbage trucks to the Cambodian Ministry of Environment, the third donation and bringing the total number of vehicles donated by Japan to 30.

The vehicles were officially handed over by Mr. Ueno Atsushi visits the Ministry of Environment in an official ceremony, confirming the ongoing cooperation between Japan and Cambodia in environmental protection.

During the handover and acceptance ceremony of the Japanese garbage truck donation, held at the Ministry of Environment on April 27, 2026, Dr. Eang Sophallet, Minister of Environment He thanked the Japanese government for its continued support and said that this assistance has made a meaningful contribution to strengthening waste management capacity at the sub-national level. The garbage trucks were immediately distributed to provincial authorities, which helped encourage local administrations to improve garbage collection and disposal services within their jurisdictions.

The Minister emphasized that this cooperation supports Cambodia’s environmental sector strategy, which aims to promote “clean, green and sustainability” of Cambodia, especially the improvement of the waste management system, plastic waste, and is essential to achieving long-term environmental goals.

He encouraged provincial authorities to maintain vehicles properly and ensure their efficient use. Dr. Eang Sophallet urged the continuation of the campaigns launched by the Ministry of Environment and called for efforts to transform these campaigns into social movements and long-term daily habits among citizens.
