Singapore shows active support for environmental protection and sustainable development projects in Cambodia

Phnom Penh: In a courtesy call and working discussion with Dr. Eang Sophallet, Minister of Environment, at the Ministry’s office on April 27, 2026, Mr. Steven Pang Chee Wee, the newly appointed Ambassador of Singapore to Cambodia, raised the project to strengthen deeper cooperation on natural resource and environmental management between the two countries, Cambodia and Singapore.

The Ambassador highly appreciated the efforts of the Royal Government of Cambodia, especially the Ministry of Environment, which has implemented the Royal Government of Cambodia’s “Environmental Sector Chakra Strategy” to promote activities on cleanliness, greenness, and addressing climate change to promote sustainable development.

On this occasion, Dr. Eang Sophallet spoke about the project to strengthen cooperation in priority areas, including waste management, prevention of public water and air pollution in promoting activities towards cleanliness, reducing plastic use, and collecting and managing garbage and plastic waste properly.

At the same time, the Minister encouraged cooperation on carbon market work, including activities to build climate change resilience to promote sustainable development and capacity-building on the use of technology to protect and conserve Cambodia’s environment and natural resources.

The Minister expressed gratitude for Singapore’s support in examining and resolving environmental issues, including the management of Mekong River water quality.
