Through a press release, Lieutenant General Maly Socheata, spokesperson for the Ministry of National Defense of Cambodia, said that on Tuesday afternoon, May 5, 2026, Lieutenant General Phat Vibolsopheak, Deputy Director General of the General Department of Politics and Foreign Affairs and Director of the International Relations Department of the Ministry of National Defense of Cambodia, welcomed the arrival of Rear Admiral GLENN Z DIZON, the new Head of Mission of the ASEAN Observer Group (AOT HOM) to the Kingdom of Cambodia, at Techo International Airport.

The Ministry of National Defense of Cambodia expressed its warm welcome and deepest appreciation for the presence of the Philippine observer team to Cambodia, with high commitment to fulfill its role as the Chair of the ASEAN Observer Team (AOT) in 2026, succeeding Malaysia, in accordance with the spirit of the Joint Declaration of the 3rd Special Meeting of the Cambodia-Thailand General Boundary Committee (GBC) on December 27, 2025, to observe, verify and ensure the full and effective implementation of the ceasefire, aiming to enhance transparency, accountability and mutual trust between Cambodia and Thailand, towards a speedy recovery and return to normalcy, peace and stability. and long-term security along the border.

It is also important to emphasize that since the ceasefire came into effect, Cambodia has consistently respected and implemented the ceasefire, the Joint Statement on the Peace Agreement between Cambodia and Thailand on October 26, 2025, Joint Declaration of the 3rd Special Meeting of the Cambodia-Thailand General Boundary Committee (GBC) on December 27, 2025 and other relevant agreements, and Cambodia always fully supports the ASEAN Observer Team (AOT) mechanism and emphasizes the indispensable importance of strengthening the role and mandate of the AOT.
