Phnom Penh: Mr. Heng Sour, Minister of Labor and Vocational Training and Chairman of the Council of Engineers of Cambodia, chaired the meeting of the Council of Engineers of Cambodia on the results of the work in 2025 and the direction for 2026 of the General Secretariat of the Council of Engineers of Cambodia at the Ministry’s office on the afternoon of May 6, 2026.

On that occasion, the Minister expressed his appreciation and high appreciation to the General Secretariat of the Cambodian Engineers’ Association for its efforts in carrying out its work throughout the past year, effectively achieving the planned achievements, especially in training, registering engineers, and continuing to promote it in ministries, institutions, and capitals and provinces. A notable achievement is that there are a total of 10,172 engineers registered with the Cambodian Engineering Council (475 females) as of 2025, of which 10,128 are national engineers (475 females) and 44 are foreign engineers, while a total of 14,061 engineers (1,307 females) have received training to improve their professional performance.

In addition to promoting the benefits of registering engineers in ministries, institutions, and capitals and provinces, the Cambodian Engineering Council has also shared the knowledge, skills, and experiences of professional engineers with students and other important meetings with ASEAN.

The meeting also raised challenges, expressed opinions, and collected input on the implementation and work activities of the General Secretariat of the Cambodian Engineers’ Council in 2025 to jointly discuss, strengthen, and correct shortcomings, so that the work of the Cambodian Engineers’ Council can be carried out more effectively and efficiently for 2026.

To improve the efficiency of the Cambodian Engineering Council, Mr. Heng Sour provided valuable recommendations for implementation, especially studying the reasons why newly registered engineers cannot continue to register as professional engineers, paying close attention to already registered engineers such as providing additional training and trying to attract more engineers to register, and reviewing the registration conditions for newly registered and professional engineers.

As the demand for professional engineers increases and becomes more important in Cambodia, the Minister also urged the General Secretariat of the Cambodian Engineering Council to increase outreach to target groups about the importance and benefits of registering engineers, noting that more outreach will lead to a wider recognition and understanding of the Cambodian Engineering Council and greater collaboration.

In addition, it is necessary to clearly define priorities and missions in accordance with social conditions, review and list relevant engineering laws to be included in the curriculum, as well as strengthen the quality of laboratories and cooperate with relevant institutions both at home and abroad.
