Phnom Penh: On May 7, 2026, during a working meeting, Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen and Singaporean Prime Minister Lawrence Wong pledged to continue to strengthen the momentum of close relations and cooperation.

At the outset, the Singaporean Prime Minister highlighted that the meeting between him and the President on this occasion confirms the closeness and commitment between the two countries to strengthen and expand cooperation between the two countries, both in bilateral and multilateral frameworks. In this regard, he underlined Singapore’s commitment to continue to strengthen the momentum of this close relationship and cooperation.
In response, the Prime Minister expressed satisfaction with the continued progress in relations and cooperation between the two countries, including the recent entry into force of the Second Protocol to amend the Agreement on the Avoidance of Double Taxation and the Prevention of Fiscal Evasion with respect to Taxes on Income, which will contribute to further attracting Singaporean investors to invest in Cambodia.

At the same time, the President also welcomed the recent signing of a Memorandum of Cooperation (MOC) on food security between the governments of the two countries. The Prime Minister expressed optimism that the two countries will seek new opportunities to further expand bilateral cooperation in all fields, as well as continue to strengthen partnerships between the private sectors of the two countries.
On that occasion, the Prime Minister also informed the Singaporean Prime Minister that Cambodia will begin implementing the Military Conscription Law in 2026, and the Prime Minister hopes that Cambodia will receive more experience sharing from Singapore to ensure smooth implementation.
The two leaders also discussed continuing to strengthen and expand cooperation in the fields of trade, energy, defense and security, and exchanged views on a number of regional issues within the ASEAN and international frameworks.
