On August 12, the National Assembly will open a session to approve the military conscription law.

Phnom Penh: The National Assembly has set May 12 as the date for an extraordinary session to approve the “military duty” law and electricity payment guarantee.

The session was scheduled after the Standing Committee of the National Assembly of Cambodia on the morning of the 8th May 2026, under the high chairmanship of Samdech Khuon Sudary, President of the National Assembly, the meeting opened.

Before reaching the date of this plenary meeting, the National Assembly Inter-Committee worked closely with representatives of the Royal Government. On May 4, the National Assembly Inter-Committee, led by Mr. Kep Chutema, Chairman of Committee 4, held detailed discussions with General Tea Seiha, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defense.

The main content of the draft law on military service states that those subject to military service: Cambodian men aged 18 to 25 years must complete military service for 24 months (including dual nationals living in Cambodia). Volunteering for women: Women are not required to do so, but are encouraged to participate on a voluntary basis. Exceptions: Exemptions are granted to monks, religious leaders, people with disabilities, and senior professionals performing important missions for the nation.
