Ba Phnom District takes a step towards China: Studying modern rural development models, strengthening Cambodia-China people-to-people friendship

Phnom Penh: On the afternoon of May 8, 2026, the Cambodia-China Friendship Association organized a meeting with a delegation from the Ba Phnom District Administration of Prey Veng Province, which is scheduled to visit China for 6 days from May 9 to 14, 2026.

On behalf of Mr. Ek Sam Ol, President of the Cambodia-China Friendship Association, Mr. Chan Sovannareth, Vice President of the Association, emphasized that this visit is not only an exchange of views and experiences, but also a valuable opportunity for the Cambodian delegation to first-hand study the model of rural development, infrastructure planning, smart city management, modern agricultural development, and public service promotion that China has effectively implemented in the past few decades.

He also added that the Cambodia-China Friendship Association will continue to actively support the Ba Phnom District Administration’s mission to strengthen relations and alliances with Chinese districts and cities. He considered that such grassroots connections are an important bridge for promoting practical cooperation in the fields of economy, agriculture, education, culture, tourism and human resource development in line with the goal of building a “Cambodia-China community with a shared future in all seasons in the new era.”

Dr. Chea Monirith Members of the executive committee of the Cambodia-China Friendship Association said that through this visit, the delegation will focus on the development of China’s modern agricultural sector, which uses digital technology, data management systems, and smart production methods to increase farmers’ output and income. He stated that these experiences could become important ideas and lessons for future local development in Cambodia, especially in the context that Cambodia is promoting agricultural modernization and rural development.

On behalf of the 10-member delegation, Mr. Monny Bandit, Governor of Ba Phnom District, expressed high expectations for the visit. He intends to study the rapid development of rural China, which used to be in difficult conditions but was able to transform itself into a modern development area through visionary leadership, the use of modern technology, and the active participation of citizens. He emphasized that these experiences can be applied and adapted to the actual situation in Ba Phnom District to promote local development, improve people’s livelihoods, and strengthen the agricultural sector more effectively in the future.
