Phnom Penh: The Royal Government of Cambodia has been further promoting the preparation of documents to register more of Cambodia’s cultural heritage sites on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

This is an update from Samdech Maha Bavorathi Hun Manet The Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, on the occasion of allowing Mr. Flavio Bonetti, Representative of UNESCO in Cambodia, and his colleagues to pay a courtesy call and discuss work at the Peace Palace on the afternoon of May 11, 2026.

On the occasion of this meeting, Mr. Flavio Bonetti expressed his deep gratitude to the Royal Government of Cambodia for its support to UNESCO. Until achieving many achievements that are worth being proud of in the past.

Mr. Flavio Bonetti highly appreciated the excellent cooperation between the Royal Government and UNESCO in preserving cultural heritage and developing the education sector in Cambodia. Mr. Flavio Bonetti highlighted his commitment to continue strengthening and expanding the partnership with the Royal Government of Cambodia for further development.

At the same time, Mr. Flavio Bonetti also informed His Majesty about UNESCO’s contribution in providing experts and mobilizing funds from the international community to support the management and conservation of cultural heritage in Cambodia, which is a top priority for UNESCO.

Furthermore, Mr. Flavio Bonetti emphasized the continuation of the long-term partnership with the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports, especially in the preparation of education policies, strengthening the quality of teachers and curricula, aiming to contribute to building human capital in Cambodia in line with the Pentagon Strategy, Phase 1 of the Royal Government.

In response, the Prime Minister highly appreciated the excellent cooperation between the Royal Government of Cambodia and UNESCO, which has contributed significantly to the socio-economic development of Cambodia. The King emphasized that the preservation of tangible and intangible cultural heritage is not only important for the Cambodian people and the next generation of young people, but also of great value to humanity worldwide.

Meanwhile, the King added that the preservation of cultural heritage remains a key priority for Cambodia, and the Royal Government of Cambodia The Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts, which is the head of the Ministry, has been further promoting the preparation of documents to register more of Cambodia’s cultural heritage sites on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
