Pursat: On the morning of May 13, 2026, at the Khleang Muang Assembly Hall of Pursat Provincial Polytechnic Institute, Mr. Khoy Rida, Governor of Pursat Provincial Government, presided over the ceremony to celebrate the 140th anniversary of International Labor Day, May 1, under the theme “Together to Build Resilience for Decent Work”, with the participation of Mr. Run Sary, Deputy Governor of the Provincial Government, Director of Provincial Administration, leaders of departments and units around the province, and many representatives of workers and employees.

According to a report by Mr. Kol Bunthoeun, Director of the Provincial Department of Labor and Vocational Training, there are currently a total of 412 enterprises and establishments in Pursat province that are providing jobs to a total of 15,815 workers (10,006 women). Among them, the garment sector has the largest workforce of 7,827, followed by the banking and finance sector with 1,778 employees, as well as other sectors such as construction, services, manufacturing, and agriculture.

The head of the department also confirmed the status of 10,152 workers returning from Thailand, of which 8,833 workers have received ongoing jobs and the rest Another 1,319 are in the process of finding jobs and further training.

On that occasion, Mr. Khoy Rida read the full message of His Excellency President Hun Sen, Prime Minister of Cambodia, sent to workers and employees on the occasion of the 140th anniversary of International Workers’ Day. The message emphasized the Royal Government’s commitment to protecting the right to freedom of association, increasing the minimum wage, and expanding the social security system to ensure “resilience” and “decent work” for all citizens, despite the changing global economic circumstances.

Adding to the ceremony, the provincial governor highly appreciated the achievements of the Department of Labor. And recalled the meaningful history of May 1, which emerged from the struggle for working conditions “8-8-8” (8 hours work, 8 hours rest, 8 hours study) in Chicago in 1886.

The governor emphasized that today’s celebration is not just a historical commemoration, but also a demonstration of solidarity between the states. Workers and employers.

The Pursat Provincial Administration will continue to promote investment, create local jobs through special economic zones, and strengthen labor dispute resolution mechanisms to ensure that all workers and employees receive full benefits under labor laws and have a better life.

The provincial governor also instructed all enterprise owners and establishments to continue to cooperate well with experts and pay high attention to the safety and health of workers because workers are the most important driving force in pushing the economy of Pursat province to grow.
